Reyes and Mets set to take on AL

Jose Reyes Club News, Jose Reyes Matchups No Comments

Jose Reyes and the New York Mets hope that interleague play will springboard their season leading in the upcoming all star break. Sitting at 3 games under .500, and 7.5 games out, the Mets need to start putting strings of wins together. This weekend, they will start their interleague slate with the Texas Rangers, at home.

Texas comes in with a 34-34 record, 17-18 on the road.

The pitching matchups for this series are as followed:

Friday: Scott Feldman 1-2, 4.31 v. Oliver Perez 4-4, 5.37

Saturday: Kason Gabbard 1-2, 4.75 v. Pedro Martinez 1-0, 6.91

Sunday: Kevin Millwood 4-3, 4.91 v. John Maine 6-4, 3.60

The matchups look to seem the Mets over the Rangers. Feldman and Gibbard are both young and inexperienced, but Millwood has lock down potential. Oliver Perez and John Maine have both shown more consistency, and with Pedro recently off the D.L, “ya never know”.. Mets should take atleast two of three.

Let’s take a look at how our guy Mr. Reyes has done against these pitchers in the past.

Reyes v. Feldman:

Jose Reyes has never faced Scott Feldman

Reyes v. Gabbard:

Jose Reyes has never faced Kason Gabbard

Reyes v. Millwood:

  • 5-12
  • .417 average
  • 1 double
  • 1 strikeout
  • 1 walk

Good luck to the Mets! And Jose! Jose! Jose! Jose! Jose! Jose! JOSE!

Reyes update- season to date

Jose Reyes Club News, Jose Reyes News No Comments

As the New York Mets stumble around .500 65 games into the season, let’s take a look at the catalyst of the team, our guy Mr. Reyes and what kind of numbers he is putting up in 2008, and also his career numbers to this day. The Mets sit in fourth place at 31-34, 7.5 games behind the Phillies. Here are Reyes numbers:

2008 season:

  • 271 at bats
  • .288 average
  • 43 runs
  • 78 hits
  • 18 doubles
  • 5 triples
  • 8 homeruns
  • 29 rbi’s
  • 27 walks
  • 37 strikeouts

Career:

  • 659 games
  • 2789 at bats
  • 793 hits
  • .284 career average
  • 463 runs
  • 136 doubles
  • 57 triples
  • 53 homeruns
  • 271 rbi’s
  • 202 walks
  • 341 strikeouts
  • 257 stolen bases

While his 2008 numbers may be starting a bit slow, they will rise. His career numbers are good, for a guy so young. Jose will just turned 25 on the 11th is looking to have some mega stats by the time he calls it quits!

Mets set to face young righthander

Jose Reyes Club News, Jose Reyes Matchups No Comments

Rick VandenHurk will try to get Florida their first win of the 2008 season on Tuesday night. The 22 year old will take the mound against the Mets. Our boy Jose has only faced Mr. VandenHurk five times in his career, garnering two base hits off him, both extra base hits including a triple and a homerun. Jose has also walked once and struck out twice in his short battle with Rick.

Good luck Tuesday night Jose! Keep up the hot hitting!

Reyes two hits/Mets win

Jose Reyes Club News, Jose Reyes News No Comments

Johan Santana made his presence felt for the New York Mets on Monday. The Mets are off to a 1-0 start, thanks in large part to the lefty, who pitched seven strong innings, only allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, while walking 2 and striking out 8. The only blemish on his day was allowing a two run homerun to Josh Willingham in the 4th inning.

Our man Jose Reyes got off to a fast start. Jose went 2-4 on the day with two singles, and a run scored, and he also drove home a man. Reyes is off to a .500 start in the batting average department!

Nice game Jose, and great win Mets!

Reyes has more power than he wants

reyes-hit.jpgSo the other day in Spring Training, Jose Reyes came to the plate hitting against Joe Smith.  He barely swung the bat and the ball sailed off the top of the right field wall.  Reyes cruised around the bases for a triple.  The Mets have made it known that they want more “small ball” mentality from Reyes in 2008.  After the shot, Reyes said:

“I don’t know how I hit it that hard,” Reyes said sheepishly. “In my mind I’m trying to slow down my body a little bit, hit the ball the other way and use my speed. It was a fastball and I just use my hands.”

What a good problem to have.  Accidentally hitting the ball hard  :)   Keep it up JoRey!

Jose Reyes reports to Spring Training

Jose Reyes News No Comments

Great to see our main Jose Reyes report to 2008 Spring Training early. He showed up a full 6 days before the position players for the Mets were scheduled to start up. Listen to this quote:

“I’m probably going to be a little faster this year,” Reyes said.

Is this possible? Can this guy get any faster? Time to dominate in 2008 Jose!!!
